The Aviation Museum, now the National Aeronautic and Space Museum was created on 13 July 1944 by Supreme Decree No. 486, under the government of President Juan Antonio Ríos Morales, the Minister of Defence Major General Don Oscar Escudero Otárola and Commander in Chief of the Chilean Air Force General Air Tovarías Don Manuel Arroyo. On Thursday, 21 August, a unique formation of three Avro bombers will depart RAF Waddington for a series of flypasts. Bill Ramsey will be leading the formation in Vulcan XH558 (G-VLCN) with two Lancasters for company, and he spoke to Gareth Stringer about the exciting prospect of the trip ahead and his experience of flying both types.

Red Flag is a programme which will no doubt be familiar to most of our readership, with GAR having covered the majority of its iterations over the last couple of years. Suffice to say, it is the world’s largest and most established air combat exercise, which normally takes place three times per year at Nellis AFB, NV. The exercise is organised by the 414th Combat Training Squadron (CTS) and attracts participation from units throughout the USAF (and other branches of the US armed services) as well as allies overseas.
