Global Aviation Resource (GAR) launched on 18 May 2009 and subsequently went from strength to strength.
Conceived by highly respected photo-journalist Karl Drage and bringing together an eclectic group of aviation photographers and writers, the GAR team is extremely well-connected across the aviation world and produces features and reports of the highest quality and, equally importantly, on a regular and timely basis.
“Aviation is a fast-moving world and I wanted to create a site that can keep up with the industry but not compromise on quality when it comes to reporting news or publishing features. I think we’ve achieved that in our first year and the trick now is to continue delivering”, said Karl back in 2010.
We’ve always strived to remain true to that launch commitment of bringing visitors the very best news, reviews, features, comment and photography from those at the sharp end of aviation – initially on a weekly basis and, as GAR developed, far more frequently.
We’ve now published 1300+ articles and blogs (BlogGARs – as we call them!) and in doing so have managed to capture the imagination of enthusiasts worldwide while also catching the eye of the aviation industry.
Much to our amazement, GAR was shortlisted for a prestigious FlightGlobal ‘Aviation Web Award’ just seven months after its inception. We came second that time in the final reckoning, but in 2011 it was announced that we had been awarded with the hugely prestigious ‘Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators Award for Aviation Journalism’ – this for our extensive coverage of the Harrier’s retirement from UK service. A huge honour.
Whatever your area of interest, you’ll find that GAR covers every facet of the aerospace genre – ranging from modern military to historic aviation, through to airshows and industry news with everything in between covered too.
It has been an honour to work so closely with many military air arms, businesses, owners and industry figures and our aim is to continue doing exactly that – bringing you the best aviation features on the net including a host of exclusive content. We even launched a magazine – Global Aviation Magazine. This high quality, digital product launched in October 2011 and included a host of feature content, with the team publishing its final issue in 2014.
March 2013 saw us redesign and relaunch GAR, and it has been updated even more since that time, but original GAR remains in place and all of our previous content is still available.
Fast forward to the time of writing (2023) and while GAR doesn’t publish anywhere near as frequently as it used to, the team remains intact, we continue to publish quality features and have a thriving network of social media. Meanwhile, our existing archive of articles still attracts large numbers of visitors from across the globe.
