Aviation Feature – Lockheed P-38 Lightning 75th anniversary

27 January 1939 saw the maiden flight of Lockheed’s latest design, the Lightning. Despite being overshadowed throughout World War Two by the likes of the Spitfire and Mustang, the Lightning would prove to be a crucial element in the Allies’ success in the European, Mediterranean and Asia-Pacific theatres. Whilst widely overlooked when assessing the key aircraft which won the war for the Allies, the P-38 was certainly a machine that had the credentials to garner such an accolade. Airshow Review – IWM Duxford Autumn Air Show 2013

Sunday 13 October 2013 marked both the end of the British airshow season and the 40th anniversary of air displays at IWM Duxford. Despite some appalling weather trying its very hardest to put a dampener on the occasion, those who attended were treated to a fine afternoon of flying which placed the spotlight firmly on the many based operators.
