For this next part of our ‘Farewell Tornado’ series, we have compiled together some of the best available Tornado footage.

First flight of the Tornado:

From the BAE Systems archive, here is footage from the Tornado’s first ever flight on the 14 August 1974, with commentary.

Tornado recruitment video:

A classic from the 1980’s.

This documentary sees us join IX(B) Squadron as they plan and fly a training mission and it was used as an RAF / MoD recruitment film.

Low level:

Here is a collage of the Tornado training at low level in Wales followed by a flypast with the F-35B at the Royal International Air Tattoo in 2018.

Tornado GR.4 Role Demo 2012:

The Role Demo delighted and thrilled airshow crowds in 2012 and here is the view from the cockpit at the RAF Leuchars Airshow.

And here’s the view from outside. This time at Southport.

Diamond nine:

Footage from RAF Marham as the two remaining squadrons perform a diamond nine to mark the Tornado’s impending retirement.

Tornado – to the last:

Tornado: To the Last, a powerful piece of music composed by RAF Music Services, has been released to celebrate almost 40 years of service by the Tornado jet – coming to an end this month.

It was composed by Flying Officer Andrew Stevenson and performed by The Band of RAF College.

We have still got more ‘Farewell Tornado’ coverage to come, so keep an eye on GAR and our social media channels.
