Aviation Feature – Dambusters 70th official unveiling
Thursday 21st March saw media assemble at RAF Coningsby for the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters, with one of two specially-marked 617 Squadron Tornado GR4s being officially unveiled. TV presenter / historian Dan Snow was there, as was Gareth Stringer, for Global Aviation Resource.
Aviation Feature – The RAF’s new BAe 146 C Mk3
In December 2011, the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) approved plans to procure two British Aerospace 146-200QC aircraft under an Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR). Now, little more than a year on, those aeroplanes are less than a month away from being deployed operationally. Karl Drage sat down with Sqn Ldr Steve Courtnadge, Officer Commanding A Flight (BAe 146), 32(The Royal) Squadron, and Wg Cdr Dan Storr, Officer Commanding Operations, RAF Northolt, to find out about the acquisition and how the Royal Air Force plans to utilise them.

It’s been absolutely ages since I last blogged, but I’ve done a reasonable amount of stuff in the meantime, and, being realistic, catching up fully is unlikely! That said, I do want to share with you some of the highlights of the last nine or so months. I can’t promise they’ll appear in order, but I thought it’d be nice to kick off with some civvy fare.
BlogGAR – Tom Gibbons – Day out at Heathrow
Tom’s first visit to Heathrow took place in 1971, armed with a bag of sandwiches, a Zenith B SLR, 200mm lens and two rolls of Agfa slide film that his father told him “must last the day”. Fast forward a number to 2013 and he was paying his first visit for over a year, armed with two Canon DSLRs, an armoury of lenses, and no sandwiches, how times have changed!
