With this I suddenly gained access to the maintenance areas at the Hatton Cross complex, where I would ride by bicycle around to the old BEA maintenance area where there were often exotic biz-jets. North Weald’s Night Photo-shoot Night photo shoots are all the rage of late, with events at RAF Northolt, East Kirkby, Elvington, Newark Air Museum and Coventry drawing high praise from the aviation enthusiasts’ community for their diversity, atmosphere and unique photographic opportunities. The latest venue to add its name to the expanding ‘night shoot’ scene is the historic aerodrome at North Weald in Essex. Elliott Marsh reports from the inaugural event as the Gnat Display Team kicked off its 2011 season in style. Photography as credited.

Siberian Odyssey – Part 5, Tolmachevo-Novosibirsk The next morning we took another western airliner, this time an A320 of S7, from Irkutsk to Tolmachevo-Novosibirsk. Unfortunately our planned Tu-134 and Tu-154 flights with Alrosa, down to their Mirny base, were scuppered at the last minute by the Russian Authorities with no explanation given as to why!
