Aviation News >> Global Aviation Magazine - FREE Preview Issue

Following discussions with a number of people, it has become clear that it wasn’t immediately obvious that purchasing the Global Aviation Magazine ‘app’ on iTunes entitled the purchasers to their choice of free issue to accompany it. To remove that confusion, we’ve decided to make the app itself 100% free, and we've created a new Preview Issue, meant to give you a taster of the sorts of articles you can expect to find in a typical copy of Global Aviation Magazine.

Global Aviation Magazine is brought to you by the same dedicated team behind this website, the award-winning Global Aviation Resource. The magazine is published on the third Friday of every month and each issue contains seven beautifully illustrated articles on, potentially, any aspect of aviation. Among the most regularly occurring themes are military aviation, civil aviation, warbirds, aviation museums, aviation nostalgia & aviation people.

The new sample issue gives you the chance to take a look at two complete articles and the first two pages of five others, hopefully showing you what Global Aviation Magazine is all about.

Designed specifically for the digital market, we use a large font to minimise the need for zooming and aren’t constrained by the same space limitations that print magazines often face, meaning we can dedicate a few extra pages if we feel an article will benefit from it.

As you will also see in the preview, we have the ability to embed both video and image slideshows into our articles, allowing us to seamlessly share extra content that’s relevant to the story with you, our audience.

If you like what we’ve shown you here, the full GAM back catalogue is available, with some discounted rates for bulk purchases. New and single back issues cost just £2.49, $3.99, Euro 2.99, AUD$ 4.49, depending on where you’re located.

The next new issue of GAM, our eleventh, goes live this coming Friday, the 17th August, and is absolutely packed with features.

We take a close look at the F-15 Eagle as it celebrates its 40th birthday, and that piece includes an exclusive examination of the Royal Air Force's Eagle test flying, from one of the men who conducted it. We also visit the WACO reunion in the USA, interview and profile legendary warbird pilot Frederic Akary and report from the Israeli Air Force Museum at Hatzerim.

That's not quite all, as we also visit the KC-10s of the AFRC, cover the T-33 Shooting Star, courtesy of Lindsay Peacock's incredible image archive and cover AirVenture 2012 from Oshkosh!

That is a spectacular array of content, by anyone's standards, and we think it represents great value, too! We hope you enjoy what you see, and if you’ve got any feedback that you’d like to pass on, please feel free to email us on editor@global-aviation-magazine.com

Finally, while we're on the subject of news - we come to The Hangar, our social network. The Hangar launched in 2011 and was our attempt to give you the chance to blog, chat, post photos and a whole lot more. As we said at the time, The Hangar isn't a forum as such, and members are invited to join using their real name. It's far more akin to Facebook for aviation enthusiasts.

As we've since admitted, The Hangar really didn't get the time and attention it deserved, so we've decided to re-design it and re-launch it. This will be happening very soon, and with 700+ members, nearly 200 excellent blog posts, 130+ videos and almost 7000 images there already, it would be a shame not to utilise what is a useful, and entertaining, site for anyone with an interest in aviation. It now has a brand new chat engine, refreshed (and simpler!) layout and a very smart mobile application. We'll also be looking for Community Managers to look after specific areas for us - more of which soon.

One thing that we still be doing is running our monthly photo competition where your image could appear on the back-cover of Global Aviation Magazine.

However, with just a couple of days until GAM Issue 11, we're going to run this month's competition in our popular Facebook group. We're looking for your favourite image of a C-130 Hercules. The competition closes at 1200 UTC (1300 BST) tomorrow (Thursday), so head over to the Global Aviation Resource Facebook group and get posting! The winning image will appear in GAM this Friday and will be rewarded with a free six month subscription, while two runners-up will each win a free copy of Issue 11.
