Aviation News >> Christmas and New Year Message from Global Aviation Resource

Well, it's been another action packed aviation year for us all at GAR HQ (eventually, we might actually get ourselves a GAR HQ, but it always sounds quite good anyway!) and attempting to pick highlights really isn't an easy task.

As ever though, we have hopefully stuck to our goal of bringing you some of the best aviation content around, no matter what your particular area of interest might be.

These days of course we do that via more ways than ever before. This site has continued to publish what we think are top notch free features on a regular basis, while we also now have Global Aviation Magazine of course. As for GAR itself, we have been a little quieter than normal of late, but with very good reason. That reason is that the main site will be relaunching in the new year and we've been working on that and the best way of making it happen. You'll still be able to reach this site, but, on an ongoing basis, GAR will have a fresh new look we can't wait!

Producing Global Aviation Magazine, meanwhile, is a momentous task each month and huge credit must go to Karl Drage for making it happen, while we'd also like to thank all of those people outside of the GAR team who have contributed this year. GAM went across to paid model in May 2012, due entirely to the amount of time and effort it was taking to compile but, as we've never been scared of change, there could be more news on how to get GAM in the new year. Watch this space, as they say.

So, how else and where else are we delivering content? Well, we now have a podcast, Aviation Xtended, which we produce in conjunction with XTP Media and the hugely influential Royal Aeronautical Society. It's great fun to do and seems to be generating a significant global audience, which is great news. Xtended is free and can be downloaded via its own website or from iTunes.

Our social network, The Hangar, got a makeover earlier in 2012 too, and that is something we will continue to work on next year. It really is a great tool and, when we ran a live chat Q&A with Royal Navy Sea King pilot Lt Jon Duke a few weeks ago, it proved extremely popular, so we'll be trying to do more of that next year as well.

Which brings us neatly on to the website Jon started this year, and which we rapidly brought under the GAR umbrella, Get Into Flying. GITF is for anyone interested in learning to fly, regardless of what it is you want to fly and whether it's for fun or with eyes on a career. Jon has already generated some great content, and has a lot more in the pipeline (especially video) and is currently running a photo competition with a superb prize a professional pilot's watch courtesy of TORGOEN Swiss check it out! We are delighted that Jon brought GITF on-board, and look forward to doing a lot more with him next year.

Most of all though, we've really enjoyed an absolutely packed year of aviation, and hope you have too. We've worked with some fantastic operators, both military and civilian, and hopefully we'll get more opportunities next year and can tell you all about them, because that's what it's all about!

We covered numerous airshows, both here in GB and further afield, with some real highlights such as revealing Flt Lt Jon Bond's Jubilee-schemed Tucano, an exclusive feature with the Royal Air Force's Tornado GR4 Role Demo Team, interviewing Swiss F/A-18 Hornet Demo Pilot, Ralph 'Deasy' Knittel, and producing our free 2012 airshow season review. We are big supporters of the worldwide airshow scene and look forward to seeing what 2013 has to bring on that front.

Finally, of course, there's you. Regardless of whether you are reading this as one of our regular visitors / supporters, someone we have worked with or featured since we came in to being in 2009, or even if you've found us for the first time, maybe via our busy social media sites on Twitter and Facebook, you are central to all that we do. We wouldn't do it otherwise, it really is as simple as that!

So, huge thanks to each and every one of you, for supporting GAR, however it might be.

We'd all like to wish you a very merry Christmas and best wishes for 2013.
