Global Aviation Resource: GAR – 100 not out

You might not believe it, and in all honesty we’re still pinching ourselves, but today’s Global Aviation Resource update is our 100th.

That’s 100 consecutive Tuesdays on which GAR has published brand new content covering all aspects of the world of aviation; a world which, if you are reading this, we know you must love as much as we do.

Few, if any, other sites can boast a similar level of output and yes, we are genuinely very proud that we’ve been able to achieve it but, like most things in life, in reality it’s the quality that counts, not the quantity.

We’d like to think that we’ve reached our first century without compromising along the way and that everything we do is done simply because it is worth doing. We don’t pad our features out or produce content for the sake of it – we publish work that we think you’ll find interesting, often because we find it interesting ourselves and are just as passionate about aviation as you are.

At the end of the day it isn’t for us to judge the quality of our work – that’s entirely up to you. But the feedback we receive and the amount of visitors we see are both strong indicators that GAR is, for many of you, a ‘must visit’ each week. For that we are most grateful.

Your support, as we’ve often said before, is absolutely vital to us and we also welcome all the criticism as well as all the praise. Many of you don’t hold back if you don’t like something or don’t agree with something we’ve written and we appreciate that as well – that’s what it’s all about isn’t it?

As we have now completed our first century (do we get a letter from Buckingham Palace??), we’ll be making some changes to the site. We’ve outgrown some of the initial set-up so we’ll be looking at that in the coming weeks and, in response to popular and growing demand, launching some more means by which we can all interact and try to grow the sense of there being a GAR community.

This is probably an area where we really haven’t done very well in all honesty. As you’ll no doubt be aware, GAR readers can of course submit comments on each piece, post on our Facebook wall or contact us via Twitter, but we want to increase that interaction and have some plans which should enable us all to do just that.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank all of those people we have worked with and who have helped us to actually bring content to the site. It’s a cliché, I know, but after 100 weeks and around 450 features and blogGARs, there really are too many of them to mention individually! But, if you’re reading this and have been responsible for hosting us, flying for us, letting us take pictures, being interviewed by us or arranging access for us then you are also hugely responsible for the fact that we are celebrating today. Thank you.

One last piece of news is that we are delighted to confirm no less than three new additions to the GAR team. Tom Gibbons, Kevin Wills and Chris Wood all come from very different aviation backgrounds but each has a wealth of experience and we're lucky to have them on-board. Click on each name to learn more as their biogs are now live on the site.

Finally, many of the GAR team will be out and about during the airshow season and if you see any of us around please do come and introduce yourself – it would be great to meet you.

Well done guys, a great achievement. I look forward to Tuesdays just so that I can be envious about what you've been up to each week. You've set some very high standards for photography, I look forward to week 200! - keep up the good (great) work.

A comment not just for this article but for the 100 Tuesday's worth of articles, a varied coverage of all aspects of aviation. Great effort
