Battle of Britain Day is commemorated on 15th September and this show will mark the culmination of a week where heroes from 1940 will be remembered across the country; with the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial flight (Lancaster, Spitfire & Hurricane) taking centre-stage.
As well as these iconic veterans other flying displays will include the Antonov An-2, Jet Provost T.3 and T.5, Pembroke, Ryan PT22, Vampire T.11, Swift Glider Team and, totally befitting the nature of the event, the wonderful Rolls Royce Spitfire PR.XIX. All of these planes are planned to be displaying on both days of the show and there may additionally be one or two special guest appearances.
In keeping with all the shows held at Kemble there will be plenty of other things to see and do including military vehicles, classic cars and trade stands alongside a display of static aircraft from all eras which are flying in specially and will hopefully include a Hunter, Chipmunks, Tiger Moths, Austers and Piper Cubs. The Cirencester Model Aircraft club will be showing off a selection of their models and also putting on a flying display each day while pleasure flights will also be available courtesy of The Flying Club and Cotswold Helicopters.
Kemble will also continue to support both the RAF Benevolent Fund and resident charity Fly to Help at the show. Both charities will be running a joint raffle over the weekend with two fantastic prizes - a limited edition Frank Wootton print of Battle of Britain fighter ace Johnny Johnson flying his Spitfire in the skies over Europe and a trial flight in a chipmunk donated by Fly to Help. The Frank Wootton print, entitled "The Straggler" is signed by the author, AVM Johnny Johnson and Adolf Galland, one of Germanys top scoring fighter pilots of World War 2.
Martin Henshaw, Regional Director of the RAFBF, said 'Relationships such as the one we have with Kemble are invaluable to the Fund's work and fundraising and we are delighted to once again be involved. Everything is in place for another fantastic Kemble event so all we need now is the weather and the public support to guarantee another fantastic weekend of flying and fun for all the family!'
Glen Moreman and his team at Kemble have rightly earned themselves a reputation for organising some of the best displays in the UK and this event, following on from their main airshow and also the Vintage Flying Weekend, will undoubtedly continue in the same vein. A well-thought out flying programme, plenty of interesting visitors and much more to see and do - all at a reasonable price.
