Flt Lt Michelle Goodman DFC - Food For Heroes

The premiss is a simple one - who is your hero and what would you cook for them? The result is a superb book that includes contributions from political leaders Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg; celebrities Ewan McGregor, Fern Britton, Bruce Forsyth, David Jason, Ross Kemp and Dame Judi Dench; sports personalities Ricky Hatton, Colin Jackson and Sir Steven Redgrave and top chefs Paul Gayler, Anton Mossiman, Ainsley Harriott and Brian Turner. The book also includes many servicemen and women representing all of our armed forces.

We caught up with Michelle at RAF Waddington where she was busy signing copies for members of the public.

"It's been a fantastic weekend so far and it looks like we're going to sell-out of books" she says between signatures.

"The book is a great project with which to be involved and I'm just glad that I can do my bit to help sell as many copies as I can and raise as much money as possible for a great charity like Help For Heroes."

Michelle's very own lasagne recipe features in the book, as does the story of how she became the first female recipient of the DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) for an operational Merlin sortie. It's heady stuff and quite difficult to associate such a down-to-earth person with the violence of a warzone - which is what heroes are all about I guess. Normal people doing extraordinary things.

Michelle will be attending as many airshows as she can, sometimes with the RAF's Team Merlin static display, and it is part of this set-up that will see her next stop on the airshow tour when she attends RIAT at Fairford on 18/19 July.

She'd be delighted to meet anyone attending the show - especially if you buy a copy of Food For Heroes (£15 signed or £12.50 unsigned).
