blogGAR: Boeing Field

We had stopped by Paine Field on the way up and there looked to be some great photographic spots at this airfield, but the traffic here is very light so we decided to head for somewhere with more target opportunities.

On the way down the freeway a look at Flight Aware showed a Boeing 737 Wedgetail from the Taiwanese Air Force on a flight test, and due back at Boeing Field well before we would be able to arrive, however as we did get to our destination the jet was still circling around to the north. Speaking to the locals it seems that test flights often extend their flight plan times.

We did see Wedgetails from Australia, Turkey and Taiwan on the ground, but it's "clutter city" on the Boeing ramps and they apparently get a little testy if you attempt to take photos. The rest of the field however is a shooters' paradise. Airport security and police are used to long lenses poking over the top of the fence.

Making up for a lack of military shooting was an immaculate Convair 580 from Nolinor Aviation in Canada which operates these great machines in both freight and passenger configurations.

Being late in the day there was a steady stream of freighters arriving in fading light.
