Barry M. Goldwater Range

It is always a long drive to the towers to observe goings-on at this huge complex and while I had visited before, when the French Air Force deployed their Rafales to Luke AFB back in 2008, I was yet to see any live firing.

192FW F-16s from Tucson International Airport were booked to use the range we were at first and they were dropping bombs on targets that were, unfortunately, too far away to photograph. Luckily they decided to perform some "show of force" flybys for us before they departed the range.

Next up were A-10s from the 357th FS based at Davis-Monthan which were very obliging as we were hoping that they would use the range for gun firing that session - they did!

It's quite surreal to see the smoke from the aircraft well before hearing the noise, and in the sound clip below they are firing when you can hear the camera shutters firing from our cameras.
