About Global Aviation Resource

Doug Green - Staff Photographer & Writer Like many youngsters, Doug grew up building Airfix models and with the North East mainline at the bottom of his garden, he was heavily into trains from the age of nine. A move to Singapore in 1971 (few trains, big airport!) left the way forward clear, and his career piloting ambition was established aged ten It wasn't long before Doug started shooting airliners with his Dad's Minolta camera but each frame was a valuable commodity back then, so sadly there aren't as many images in the archive as he'd like.

The first step on his chosen career path came during the working summer of '81 when undertaking his PPL in Maine, USA. After working as a Flight Despatcher at Gatwick for six years, Doug headed back west to gain his CPL/IR and later his Instructor Ratings in North Carolina in 1990, where he stayed for two years until his work visa expired.
Doug's first commercial flying job came operating Do228s into London City, and later ATRs, before one of his career highlights came as simulator instructor and examiner on the RJ100. Today he flies the 737 Classic.

Shooting slides is still the order of the day for Doug, though the realisation on a recent trip to Tucson that slides cost 30p per frame certainly got his attention!
He hopes to be able to bring interesting content from the '70s and '80s to the fore in his contributions to GAR.
